Optimus Prime the Year of the Horse ... ...

I have to say that this didn't appeal to me at all when I first learned of its release. However, I was sold when I saw the product in the toys department.
There were a couple of factors that appealed to me. First is the packaging. It's one of those that makes throwing it away a tough call.

Interestingly, I believe Takara Tomy will not have a version of this although the Japanese has the same zodiac as us. This is made in Vietnam and produced by the Australians.... hmmm.

Anyway, I have stopped my last prime at Masterpiece MP-01B and so this newer MP body and its accessories are very new to me.

Firstly is this retractable blaster which fits into the back of Prime is something that fascinated me.

The design of Prime is largely similar to the original MP minus the diecast parts and are mostly replaced with plastic.

The second feature that got me attracted is the design of the logo, factoring the chinese character 马, for the year of Horse come end of January in 2014.

Size comparison here with my first Hasbro version and the new body has indeed shrunk down a lot.

Articulation of course is much better with lesser metal to restrict movement. The final feature that I really like is the transparent trailer!

I was intrigued by the fact that the only diecast here is the Matrix of Leadership.

I am pleasantly surprised by how much design improvement they have done to make the truck mode so much realer than the original MP. The hue from the gold is something that makes this look really good too.

I love everything about the trailer and it's designed to fit the new MP series of autobots and I shall take Streak for a ride.

Bottomline - I'm really glad I got it.

Hi Des, you can say that again and I was really glad I waited out all the pass MP releases just for this.
